Meet Maiya May, one of two Atlanta Climate Education Presenters for the Our Climate Our Future Live program. She is a science communicator and television personality with a deep passion for nature.
Maiya's passion for nature developed during her adolescent years while exploring Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, located in Lithonia, GA. During those years, she also attended Arabia Mountain High School Academy of Engineering, Medicine, and Environmental Studies, where she learned more about our natural world and how to protect it. She spent her undergraduate years at the University of Missouri-Columbia studying geography and atmospheric science while completing weather internships at KOMU, WAGA, WSB-TV, and The Weather Channel.
In addition to working with ACE, Maiya also hosts a show for PBS called Weathered, a science-based exploration of natural disasters and climate change.
Maiya's ultimate goal is to inspire more people to connect with nature. She believes that nature has a profound effect on many aspects of our lives. In a perfect world, this intersectionality would be harmonious and mutually beneficial. But the disconnect between people and nature is becoming more apparent. Maiya believes that we must bridge this gap, and she aims to be an integral part of that effort through her work.
